Artistic DirectorDarius JamesDARIUS was born in Newport in South Wales and trained at The Royal Ballet School in London for 7 years. He started his career with Northern Ballet Theatre. Returning to Wales in 1986, Darius formed Independent Ballet Wales. He Lectured in Dance at Pontypool College (Dance GCSE) and Swansea College (Ballet A Level), and also founded "The Courthouse Project", a dance training facility in his home town. He also formed the town's first Youth Dance Company "Juvenile Court". Two years later Darius returned to dancing as a principal with the Alexander Roy London Ballet Theatre. During this time he experienced 4 coast to coast tours of the USA.. In 1992 he joined a Austrian based company, Weiner Ballet Theatre where he returned for five years as a guest artist. In 1995 Darius also guested with the Nafsika Ballet Company in Greece. In 1998, Darius was commissioned to create a work for The London Studio Centre "Images of Dance" tour. Darius has danced in many countries including the USA, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Luxembourg, Italy, Malta, Greece, Venezuela and the Virgin Islands. He has received excellent reviews for performances in many major city's including Berlin, Geneva, Zurich, Brusssels, Antwerp and Miami. He is founder and director of Independent Ballet Wales and has choreographed many one act and twelve full length productions for the company. |
