Italy Tour

Ballet Cymru are very excited for their first show on tour in Teatro Rossetti in Trieste, Italy which has sold out (950 tickets!) and second sold out show in Como (1000!). They will be bringing this year’s popular production ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and the most iconic of ballets ‘Giselle’ on tour from the 12th until the 21st of December, 2011. They will be also be performing in venues in Camposampiero, Alessandria, Scandiano and Sassuolo. For further information please check under ‘Tour Dates’ on the website. Two new dancers will be making their debut with Ballet Cymru. Natalie Corne from Cardiff and our new apprentice Aimee Williamson from Clitheroe will have the fantastic opportunity to take part in this thrilling tour.

BBC Performing Arts Fund Dance Fellowship award for Ballet Cymru

Ballet Cymru have been awarded a Dance Fellowship by the BBC Performing Arts Fund. As the only Welsh dance organisation to receive this award, the company is thrilled to represent Wales for this unique opportunity. Through this award, Ballet Cymru can offer Aimee Williamson the chance of a lifetime, enabling the challenging transition from dance student to professional dancer with the specialist care and nurturing guidance of Assistant Artistic Director and JADE Fellow Amy Doughty.

London and Cardiff shows sold out!

The performances at Sadler’s Wells in London and the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff were sold out. Ballet Cymru brought ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and the critically acclaimed ‘Under Milk Wood’ to London. The company also performed 2 nights of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in Cardiff.  Critics from Dance Europe and The Dancing Times have written reviews of the London shows, which will be available on our website in the next couple of weeks.

Roald Dahl’s ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Tempest’

Ballet Cymru’s 2 new productions for the 2012 season are firstly, a marvellous new ballet based on two poems from Roald Dahl’s book ‘Revolting Rhymes’; ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs. The two scores, by the outstanding and internationally recognised Paul Patterson, were commissioned by the Roald Dahl Foundation and have become children’s classics played all over the globe. The second production will be Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ with music by Sibelius. Amy Doughty, Assistant Artistic Director and Darius James, Artistic Director went to the Roald Dahl Trust in London to finalise the acquisition of this fantastic version with a twist of the well known fairy tale.

London 2012 Cultural Olympiad -’Adain Avion’

The dancers of Ballet Cymru have started on the creation of Wales’ major project funded by the Arts Council of Wales for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad run by Marc Rees and with Wales based choreographer Tanja Raman. This unique project will take place in the hull of a DC9 airplane in Ebbw Vale in July 2012!
